Why Donate to CLEF

“The Chicago Law and Education Foundation provides free legal services to low-income
students and their families, helping

Your donations support,
17 Chicago Public High Schools to have free legal clinics providing a variety of services to
hundreds of students and their families.
10,000 families to receive legal resource materials connecting them to legal assistance.
200 families a year to receive free immigration services
50 students to receive criminal expungement services to get their lives on track before
graduation.
Keeping at-risk students in school, creating more stable families, and ultimately making a
difference for some of our struggling Chicago communities.

CLEF’s programs have measurably improved the lives of students and their families:

  • Approximately, 100 percent (70 percent improved and 30 percent greatly) of students reported that free legal services/help improved their ability to concentrate at school.
  • Approximately, 100 percent (60 percent improved and 40 percent greatly) of students reported that free legal services/help improved their ability to complete schoolwork.
  • Approximately, 100 percent (60 percent improved and 40 percent greatly) of students reported that free legal services/help improved their likelihood of graduating high school.
  • Approximately, 100 percent (50 percent improved and 30 percent greatly, 20 percent slightly) of students reported that free legal services/help improved their overall success in school.
  • Approximately 100 percent reported an improved family financial stability. Approximately, 90 percent of students reported that services greatly improved their family’s financial stability.
  • Approximately, 100 percent of students reported that free legal services/help greatly improved their family/home stability overall.
  • Approximately, 100 percent (50 percent greatly reduced, 25 percent reduced, and 25 percent slightly) of students reported that free legal services/help reduced their overall stress and anxiety.
  • Approximately, 100 percent (90 percent greatly reduced, 10 percent slightly) of students reported that free legal services/help reduced stress and anxiety in the household.
  • Approximately, 100 percent (90 percent greatly improved, 10 percent improved) of students reported that free legal services/help improved their chances of going to college.
